The mission of this successful advertising campaign has been to teach children and others that law enforcement cannot fight crime alone. We participate in this program by visiting local schools who request a visit from McGruff\u00ae. Books &amp; Badges brings Fayette County Deputy Sheriffs into the classroom to read well-known children\u2019s books with the class. After story time, the Deputy Sheriff gives each child their own book to take home to read with a parent, sibling, and\/or grandparent. In this program, <span data-offset-key=\"9artu-2-0\"><span data-text=\"true\">Fayette County Deputy Sheriffs<\/span><\/span> visit local assisted living centers and nursing homes to share a meal with the residents of these facilities in order to get to know these citizens better as well as build personal relationships with them. The cellular telephones that are collected may not be &#8220;in service&#8221;, however, the 911 emergency dialing functions remain operable. This important service is a lifeline for seniors, victims, and disabled citizens in our community who may not be able to afford a regular mobile phone plan on their own. With one of these life-saving mobile phones in their possession, these citizens are able to dial 911 in an emergency situation at any time.<\/p>\n<h3>\u00a0<\/h3>\n<h3>Donating Cell Phones<\/h3>\n<p>The Office of the Fayette County Sheriff collects used cell phones year round.
