McGruff The Crime Dog\u00ae Program
<\/strong><\/h2>\n

McGruff the Crime Dog\u00ae is a national icon that began in 1980. The mission of this successful advertising campaign has been to teach children and others that law enforcement cannot fight crime alone. We participate in this program by visiting local schools who request a visit from McGruff\u00ae. Our past sessions have been incredibly successful and, without a doubt, have strengthened our community’s fight against crime.<\/p>\n

Books & Badges Program
<\/strong><\/h2>\n

The Office of the Fayette County Sheriff\u2019s Books & Badges Program, established in 2015, helps promote language and literacy development among preschool and elementary-aged children in Fayette County.<\/p>\n

In response to the epidemic of children\u2019s illiteracy, the Office of the Fayette County Sheriff has partnered with the Fayette County School System and Lexington daycare centers and launched Books & Badges. Books & Badges brings Fayette County Deputy Sheriffs into the classroom to read well-known children\u2019s books with the class. After story time, the Deputy Sheriff gives each child their own book to take home to read with a parent, sibling, and\/or grandparent. This opportunity to promote literacy development can inspire a child to make better choices \u2013 to choose learning and success in school and life, and to choose a brighter future.<\/p>\n

Dine With a Deputy Program

In the Spring of 2016, the Office of the Fayette County Sheriff launched a new Community Outreach program for the citizens of Fayette County, called Dine With a Deputy. In this program, Fayette County Deputy Sheriffs<\/span><\/span> visit local assisted living centers and nursing homes to share a meal with the residents of these facilities in order to get to know these citizens better as well as build personal relationships with them. The Dine With a Deputy program was created as a means to give back to the senior citizens of Fayette County and to let them know that they are appreciated and deeply cared for by the Office of the Fayette County Sheriff. <\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

A MedReturn Drug Collection Unit is now located at the Office of the Fayette County Sheriff:<\/p>\n

Monday-Friday 8 a.m. – 4 p.m.<\/p>\n

You can use this Unit to safely dispose of prescription medications, patches, vitamins, and prescription medications for pets. Liquid medications cannot be disposed of in the MedReturn Drug Collection Unit.<\/p>\n

If you are unable to bring your unwanted medications to the Office of Sheriff, call us at (859) 252-1771<\/a> to schedule a time for a deputy to pick up your medications at your home.<\/p>\n

MedReturn is made possible by the Lexington Division of Police, the Lexington Department of Environmental Quality, the Fayette County Sheriff’\u2122s Office, Kentucky American Water, the Mayor’s Alliance on Substance Abuse, the Kentucky Board of Pharmacy, the University of Kentucky School of Pharmacy, Bluegrass Greensource and the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, along with other community partners.<\/sub><\/p>\n

Helping Seniors and Victims with Emergency Mobile Phones
<\/strong><\/em><\/h3>\n

The Office of the Fayette County Sheriff collects donated mobile phones and chargers in order to redistribute them at no charge to elderly, victimized, and disabled citizens. The cellular telephones that are collected may not be “in service”, however, the 911 emergency dialing functions remain operable. This important service is a lifeline for seniors, victims, and disabled citizens in our community who may not be able to afford a regular mobile phone plan on their own. With one of these life-saving mobile phones in their possession, these citizens are able to dial 911 in an emergency situation at any time.<\/p>\n

Donating Cell Phones<\/h3>\n

The Office of the Fayette County Sheriff collects used cell phones year round. When donating a mobile phone, the phone must be accompanied with the appropriate charger in order for the phone to operate. Do You Need a 911 Mobile Phone?<\/h3>\n

If you are in need of a 911 Emergency Mobile Phone and charger, please contact the Domestic Violence Intake Center at 859-252-1771. There is no fee to obtain a 911 Emergency Mobile Phone. Automobile Inspections<\/strong><\/h2>\n

If you or your company has purchased an automobile in or imported an automobile from another state, Kentucky Law requires that a certified automobile inspector perform an inspection of that automobile prior to licensing. The Office of the Fayette County Sheriff has a number of Deputies who are certified automobile inspectors.<\/p>\n

Please Contact the Automobile Inspection Division of our Office at (859) 252-1771<\/a> if you would like to set up an inspection appointment. The Kentucky Revised Statutes set the fee for this service at $5.00 per automobile. If you would like for us to inspect an automobile at your location, the Kentucky Revised Statutes requires an additional fee of $10.00.<\/p>\n
